Tracking Nutrients in Outdoor Piggery Systems
We conducted a research project quantifying nutrient deposition, accumulation, and distribution in rotational free-range pig farming paddocks.
The study was conducted over a three-year period, coinciding with the pig farming or cropping phase.
Mean available P and sub-soil (60cm depth) nitrate-N levels exceeded environmental thresholds after one year of pig farming.
Our team found that nutrients within outdoor areas could be more evenly distributed by periodically moving relocatable pig shelters.
